Global AP Anatomic Total Shoulder System (Visit this link)
On April 17, 2008, at 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time, surgeons and
others are welcome to virtually scrub in with Gerald Williams, MD, to
perform a shoulder replacement with the Global AP Shoulder System from
DePuy Orthopaedics, Inc. at Methodist Hospital in Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania.
"The Global AP Shoulder has made a big difference in the way
we treat shoulders because it can be adapted based on the patient's
anatomy," said Dr. Williams. "The Global AP gives us the option to
choose either a fixed or adjustable neck. This means we can replicate a
patient's natural anatomical requirements."
As with any medical treatment, individual results may vary. Only
an orthopaedic surgeon can determine whether an orthopaedic implant is
an appropriate course of treatment. There are potential risks, and
recovery takes time. The performance of the new joint depends on
weight, activity level, age and other factors. These need to be
discussed with a doctor.
Dr. Gerald R. Williams, Jr., Attending Surgeon at the
Rothman Institute at Jefferson, Philadelphia, PA, will be performing
the surgery. Dr. Williams is an American Shoulder and Elbow Society
(ASES) member and chairperson and a co-designer of the Global AP
Shoulder.
